Guardian ad Litem:

A Guardian ad Litem (GAL) in Juvenile Court is an objective, licensed professional appointed by the court to participate in court proceedings on behalf of a minor. In Probate and Family Court, there are two types of GALs - attorneys (Category F) and mental health professionals (Category E).  Both types of GALs investigate cases involving the care and custody of minor children, however, a Category E GAL also conducts an evaluation, which may include clinical assessments, as part of the process.

Social Work Expert:

Defense attorneys with The Committee for Public Counsel Services (CPCS) can petition the court for funds to hire a Social Work Expert to assist with clinical matters associated with their clients and their case.  Social Work Experts are human service professionals with education and experience in a variety of fields.

Parenting Coordination:

A Parenting Coordinator can be court-appointed or hired directly by co-parents to provide services. A Parenting Coordinator is a third party professional who assists with the administration of parenting plans and can handle disputes regarding custody or parenting time matters.
